Socio-economic drivers of improved sweet potato varieties adoption among smallholder farmers in South-Kivu Province, DR Congo

Promotion of improved crop varieties is an effective means increasing farm productivity and alleviating poverty in rural areas. A successful dissemination such requires a deep understanding target farmers’ attitudes, preferences socio-economic status. This study aimed at assessing factors linked to smallholder adoption decision for sweet potato (ISPVs) South-Kivu. household survey was conducted on 360 farmers from four South-Kivu territories, eastern Democratic Republic Congo (DRC), including Idjwi, Kabare, Kalehe Walungu, data were analyzed using logit regression model. The negatively affected by age the field-to-house distance. In contrast, ISPVs favored education level, reduced size, off-farm incomes, high monthly income use hired labor. Besides, cooperative membership, access credit planting materials, contacts with extension services instrumental adopting highlighted need strengthen services, seed delivery systems, amending systems increased impact among farmers.
